While preparing the demanding Bill Viola exhibition, I also launched a creative initiative at Almaty Museum of Arts with SIGMA Kazakhstan for professional and amateur photographers: Museum Visual Club. ART IN FOCUS.
Photography has long interested me. I first practiced sports photography, and later my professional work turned to digitizing artworks, museum spaces and events. That is why planning and running Museum Visual Club was particularly meaningful.
Our primary goal was to encourage photographers to engage with art and museum architecture, and to experiment with light, artworks and contrasts. The participants produced an extraordinary number of photographs inside and around the museum, many of which can now be seen on Instagram.
Participants were also able to test SIGMA BF cameras and SIGMA lenses free of charge during museum shoots and provide feedback on their experience. The programme includes creative meetings with leading local photographers and SIGMA ambassadors, as well as a special meeting with second-generation company owner Kazuto Yamaki.
Read more about the project and its events on the museum website.
